Strategy and Public Affairs Director Vacancy, Cheshire and Warrington LEP

Cheshire & Warrington LEP

Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is a partnership of businesses, local authorities and third sector stakeholders responsible for the economic development of the Cheshire and Warrington sub-region. It is one of 38 LEPs covering the whole of England. Working directly with central and local government, the LEP is responsible for substantial investment programmes, provides direct support and advice for local businesses through its Growth Hub, sets the skills agenda for the sub-region, and, through Marketing Cheshire, markets Cheshire and Warrington as a great place to visit and the best place in the UK to live, study, invest and prosper. Some of the LEP’s key initiatives include preparation for HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail, and direct investment in the sub-region’s world class Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, Digital and Clean Energy sectors. Prior to the onset of Covid-19, Cheshire and Warrington was one of the most successful and fastest growing economies in the country and the LEP is working hand in hand with national and local stakeholders to provide support to businesses and residents facing up to the Covid-19 challenges to minimise the deep economic impacts and accelerate recovery.

The Vacancy

The LEP is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic individual who has the background and experience to help set the trajectory for Cheshire and Warrington’s recovery from Covid to make it the healthiest, most sustainable, most inclusive and fastest growing area in the country, as well as to motivate the sub-region’s most influential external stakeholders to join us on this journey. This is an exciting post for someone who has an excellent understanding of local economic development and who also enjoys and has experience of working with national and local politicians and officers.

 Skills and Experience

The post will particularly suit either an experienced economic development professional used to working closely with national and local elected leaders, or a public affairs professional with an excellent understanding of economic development. They will therefore have an excellent knowledge and understanding of how to use economic evidence to identify Cheshire and Warrington’s key economic strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. The experience will have been gained in a local authority, national government, or in an economic consultancy or think-tank. They will also know how to work with stakeholders and colleagues in local and national government and elsewhere to turn this into deliverable projects and plans that realise the LEP’s ambitions for the sub-region.

Alongside this, they will have experience of engaging with the influential stakeholders to secure the delivery of the LEP’s plans and have a good understanding of how to work with politicians and officials at national, regional and local level to convince them to support the delivery of the key elements in Cheshire and Warrington’s recovery plan. They will also be skilled in producing material that will secure broader support for the LEP’s plans through social media, press releases and for presentations and speeches to be delivered by Board members and senior members of the LEP Executive.

The total value of the remuneration package will be in the range £60k – £80k, depending on skills and experience.
