Skills Capital Fund

The Cheshire and Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership began the Skills Capital process in November 2013, soon after Government announced future FE Capital awards would be commissioned through LEPs. Nationally £330million had been ring fenced for this activity in 2015-16 and 2016-17.  Thus giving LEPs the opportunity to influence and shape local skills infrastructure and delivery, and support local growth priorities.

On 7th July Government confirmed the Growth Deal for each LEP.  Cheshire and Warrington received the full Skills Capital ‘ask’ of £12.1m.

We are working with the Skills Funding Agency and local FE Providers to develop projects which ensure the Cheshire and Warrington FE estate is of the highest quality and facilities and provision support the economic growth drivers of the Strategic Economic Plan.

Project criteria:

  • Provide Excellent Learning Facilities: projects which deliver significant improvement to the condition of the FE estate (specifically RICS cat C&D estate), including supporting any national assets.
  • Support Economic Drivers: projects with a clear strategic fit which make a direct contribution to economic growth in Cheshire and Warrington;
  • Deliver value for money: positive return on investment in terms of net present value compared to ‘do nothing’, appropriate building costs, savings and efficiencies.
  • Secure the match funding required by Government.
