Chester’s environmental supertrees arriving next month
Next month will see the belated but exciting arrival of Chester ’s environmental supertrees that will light up the night sky.
Three 7.5m high metal tree sculptures will be installed in the centre of the Mecca Bingo roundabout, with the idea of emulating the supertrees of Singapore but on a smaller scale.
The £200,000 initiative is the brainchild of eco-hero Steve Hughes who persuaded Cheshire West and Chester Council to get on board and garnered support from volunteers, city MP Chris Matheson and Chester Zoo .
At night the trees, which have been made off site by Flintshire Fabrications in Holywell, will light up and contain climbing plants that will soak up carbon emissions from the ring road as well as attracting birds and bugs.
